Privacy Policy

Last updated Aug 20 2026

Introduction

CVonphone is operated by Karpilabs Softwares LLP ("we", "our", "us"). This policy explains what we collect, why, who we send it to, and what you can do about it.

One thing is worth saying before the detail, because it is the part people most often get wrong about this service: a resume you list in the Open Library is public. Everything else here is ordinary privacy practice; that one choice is the one that actually publishes something about you, and it is described in its own section below.

By using the service you agree to this policy. If you do not agree with it, please do not use the service.

Information We Collect

Account information: your name, email address, profile picture and account identifier, received from Google when you sign in, plus the personal link you choose.

Resume content: the file you upload and everything extracted from it or entered afterwards — work history, education, skills, projects, and the contact details you put in it, which may include your phone number and postal location.

Onboarding answers: the answers you give in our setup questionnaire, such as the kind of work you do, how long you have been working, and where you are in a job search.

Pay information: if you choose to answer the pay question, we collect the figures you enter. This is treated separately from the rest and is described in its own section below.

Payment information: purchases are processed by our payment providers. We receive a record of the transaction and its status. We do not receive or store your full card details.

Activity on your link: views of your published resume, contact reveals, and messages sent to you through the service.

Verification data: where you request a verified badge, the email address or domain used to verify it and the outcome of that check.

Usage and device data: pages visited, features used, actions taken, IP address, browser, operating system and device identifiers, plus server logs of requests to our systems.

Support and feedback: what you write to us, including any screenshot you choose to attach.

Pay Information

Our setup questionnaire asks what your pay looks like today, in up to three parts: fixed, variable and equity. Answering is optional and can be skipped.

The exact figures you enter are used to place you in a broad band, and it is the band — never the exact number — that is shown anywhere in the product.

Your pay information is never attached to your public resume, never shown to another user, and never sold.

We use it in aggregate to build and improve pay ranges for roles, and to make the product's own recommendations better.

You can ask us to delete it without deleting the rest of your account, by writing to the address at the end of this policy.

The Open Library and Search

If you list your resume in the Open Library, it becomes public. That means:

• Anyone can open and read it, including people without an account

• It is indexed in our own search, and we derive a search profile from it — your name, headline, role, seniority, skills, employers, education and location — so that it can be found by those terms

• We create a numeric representation (an "embedding") of that profile using a third-party provider, so that search can match on meaning as well as on exact words

• Unless you tell us otherwise, it can be indexed by external search engines

Your contact details are not displayed on a listed resume by default. Another user can reveal them, which costs them credits and which we record.

We show you activity on your own link, including views and reveals.

Listing is opt-in and reversible. Turning it off removes your resume from the directory, from our search index, and from contact reveal, going forward. It cannot undo access that has already happened — anything already read, copied, screenshotted or revealed is out of our reach.

If you have a verified badge for an employer domain, you can also hide your listing from that employer.

How We Use Your Information

To create, render, publish and host your resume and your personal link

To run the AI features you ask for, including creating a resume from your upload and editing it by chat

To operate the Open Library, search, contact reveal and messaging, where you have chosen to take part

To issue and check verified badges

To process payments, manage subscriptions and track credit balances

To send you notifications about activity on your link, service updates and security alerts

To measure what features cost us to run, so that pricing and free allowances stay sustainable

To detect and prevent abuse, fraud and scraping

To comply with legal obligations and to protect our rights and our users

AI Processing

Creating and editing a resume sends its content to third-party AI providers on our behalf. We currently use models from OpenAI and Anthropic, and an embedding provider for search. Which provider or model serves a given request may change without notice.

These providers process your content in order to return a result to us. We use their business or API tiers, under which they do not train their models on our API content.

AI output is generated from what you gave it and is not shared with other users.

You keep ownership of your resume content, including AI-assisted changes.

AI can be wrong — it can misread a document, omit something, or state something untrue. Read what it produced before publishing it.

Notifications and Messages

We send notifications in the app, and by web push, SMS or WhatsApp where you have provided those details and given the consent that channel requires.

Service and security messages — for example a renewal notice or a sign-in alert — are part of running your account, and are sent regardless of marketing preferences.

You can turn off marketing and activity notifications from your settings, or by using the unsubscribe link in any message that carries one.

Who We Share It With

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information.

We share it with service providers who help us run the service, and only so far as they need it to do so:

• Cloud hosting, storage, database and logging providers, who hold the data the service runs on

• AI and embedding providers, as described above

• Payment providers, currently including Razorpay, who process purchases and subscriptions

• Messaging and email providers, who deliver notifications you have opted into

• Analytics providers, who help us understand how the product is used

We also share information where the law requires it or to respond to legal process, to protect the rights, property or safety of our users or the public, and in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, with notice to users.

Some of these providers are located outside India, so your information may be transferred and processed in other countries. We rely on the safeguards those transfers require under applicable law.

Data Security

We use technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit, access controls, and restricting access to personal data to those who need it.

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, and we will tell you about a breach affecting your personal data where the law requires us to.

Data Retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active and for as long as we need it for the purposes in this policy.

Resume data is kept while your account is active. Deleting a resume removes it from your account, from your published link and from the Open Library.

After you delete your account we delete or anonymise your personal data, except where we must keep something — transaction records for tax and accounting, for example — or where we need it to resolve a dispute or enforce our terms.

Aggregated and de-identified information, which can no longer be linked back to you, may be kept indefinitely.

Your Rights and Choices

Access and correction: you can see and edit your information in the app.

Listing: you can list or un-list your resume in the Open Library at any time from your settings.

Export: you can download your resume as a PDF at any time.

Deletion: you can delete your account from your settings. You can also ask us to delete specific information, such as your pay answers, without deleting the account.

Notifications: you can turn off marketing and activity notifications in your settings.

Cookies: you can manage cookies in your browser. Some are necessary for signing in and for the service to work at all.

If you are in a jurisdiction that grants further rights over your personal data, such as objection, restriction or portability, write to us and we will honour them so far as the law requires.

To exercise any of these, or to complain about how we have handled your data, use the contact details below.

Children's Privacy

The service is not intended for anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

If we find that we have, we will delete it promptly.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy to reflect changes to the product or to the law. We will post the new version here and update the "Last Updated" date.

Where a change materially affects how we use information you have already given us, we will tell you directly rather than relying on this page.
